An Army challenge coin is a specifically made military coin or medallion with an insignia of a particular division or other group. They often honored an event or an accomplishment.

Traditionally, at a time and place where drinks would be served, a soldier would ask to see the coin of another soldier. If the challenged could not produce this special coin, he was required to buy a drink for the challenger. If the challenged member produced a his coin, then the challenging person was required to pay for the drinks.
